The Environment Agency are defending their controversial plans to allow tidal flooding of part of the Clyst Valley - which have provoked a deluge of objections from local residents.
A report on the public consultation on the proposed strategy for the Exe Estuary is due to be published at the end of this month, incorporating the Agency's response to the various concerns raised.
Nearly 500 people said they were worried about the Lower Clyst plan, which is designed to create a new habitat for wading birds.
Many are concerned that it'll cause frequent flooding of one of the two main roads into Topsham.
Martin Davies, a Flood Risk Management Adviser at the Environment Agency, says the risk has been identified and measures would be put in place to reduce it, which could include raising the road or building embankments.
