Exeter City pursuing automatic promotion in dying embers of season

Exeter City, who are currently fourth in League Two, travel to Stevenage tomorrow (Saturday).

Exeter City goalkeeper Christy Pym, who has played 49 games for the club this season, narrowly missed out on promotion to League One last campaign when City were beaten 2-1 in the play-off final at Wembley.

Looking ahead to Saturday, Pym told the clubs website: “I think it had to be two wins from two now,” said Christy. “I think whichever teams goes on to win both their games in the final run in is going to be the team that goes on to do it and if everyone wins and Wycombe are the team that holds onto their place then fair play to them. They will deserve it.”

Talking about gaining promotion into League One, Pym added: “Some players go through their whole career without winning promotion or a trophy. It would just be nice to achieve that early in my career and get that monkey off your back that you have already got one promotion and you have got that experience going forward.”

Nearly a 1,000 visiting fans are expected to turn up at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday and Christy added that the support from City fans will give them a boost.

“It will boost us massively. The away support this year has been brilliant. They have made a lot of noise and, hopefully, they will do the same on Saturday.”
