Science, technology, engineering and maths award for city college
Exeter College's reputation as one of the country's leading further education establishments has been reinforced with a national award for its teach of STEM subjects.
An organisation called Enthuse, which is a partnership combining the government, academic bodies, charitable trusts and employers, together with STEM Learning, has chosen Exeter over countless others vying to be recognised for their work in science, technology, engineering and maths. These are subjects on which the government has placed priority for the country's future success. Exeter is now 'Further Education College of the Year' in the STEM Learning awards.
The college, which opened a £9 million maths and science centre two years ago and officially opened an extension to its technology centre earlier this month picked up a piece of glassware and a certificate at an event at the Royal Society in London.
The college now has courses in advanced robotics, rapid prototyping and virtual welding. Principal John Laramy says:
“Our investments, have, when combined with great teachers, excellent students and outstanding employers resulted in Award Winning STEM provision. I would like to thank our staff, students, employers and partners for their passion, commitment and ambition that enabled us to win this national award.”
