Exeter MP Joins Debate on Police Funding

The Government needs to listen to the outgoing Police and Crime commissioner in Devon and Cornwall about spending cuts.

That's the view of the MP for Exeter, who has joined calls for fairer funding for our police force.

Another reform of how money is spent on forces across the country has been launched by the Government and there are claims that it once again favours those in metropolitan areas.

Ben Bradshaw says it speaks volumes that the current Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Hogg, is stepping down after launching a campaign calling for a fairer funding system.

Meanwhile, a petition calling for Devon and Cornwall police to receive a fairer funding allocation is to be sent to the Home Secretary.

This week the Government announced a review of the funding formula - with metropolitan areas currently receiving two and a half times more than our force as Ministers fail to recognise the challenges of rural policing.

Chief executive of the Police and Crime Commissioner's office Andrew White says they want to show the strength of feeling among local residents.
