Exeter murder investigation: five men released

A man is in custody charged with the murder of Lorraine Cox

Bail ends. One other to stand trial

Police have cancelled the bail of five men being investigated about the death of Lorraine Cox in Exeter this summer.

They had been arrested, questions and then released. They were due to surrender their bail next Wednesday, 10 December, but police have now said that no further action will be taken against the men, who are aged 43, 22, 30, 33 and 71.

Azum Rasul Mohammed Mangori, also known as Christopher Mayer, has been charged with the murder of 32-year-old Lorraine Cox between 30 August and 9 September this year. He is further accused of the prevention of lawful and decent burial between the same dates. Mr Mangori, aged 23, of no fixed abode, denies both charges and is due to stand trial at Exeter Crown Court on 1 March 2021.

Detective Inspector Lee Nattrass, of Devon and Cornwall Police’s major crime investigation team, said: “The investigation to date has gathered a large amount of CCTV and digital and forensic evidence, including over 500 statements and 1,400 exhibits. In reviewing this material, there is no evidence to suggest any involvement of these five men, who are now supporting police enquiries.

“Family members of Lorraine Cox have been informed of the latest developments and continue to be supported by specialist officers. They ask that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.

“We remind the public that, with a trial at Exeter Crown court due to take place in March, this is a live and active case and we ask members of the public not to speculate on social media.”
