Exeter nurse loses appeal over right to wear crucifix

The Exeter nurse who launched a legal battle over her right to wear a crucifix necklace at work has been told she can't take her case any further.

Shirley Chaplin's discrimination claim was rejected by the European Court of Human Rights earlier this year.

She and two other people claiming religious discrimination attempted to take their appeals to the Grand Chamber of the court, but judges have rejected their request.

Mrs Chaplin had been moved to a desk job after refusing to take off her necklace when managers said it could be grabbed by a patient... her discrimination claim failed because the ban was on health and safety, not religious, grounds.
