Exeter probation staff join anti-privatisation protest

Probation staff in Exeter will walk out today as part of a national protest by their union against Government plans to privatise 70 per cent of the service.

The union NAPO says it believes that the change will undermine public protection and put communities at risk, and will also fail to provide the service offenders need to turn their lives around.

It's also concerned that the two main companies likely to bid for the work are Serco and G4S, who are currently being investigated by the Serious Fraud Office for shortcomings in managing the tagging system for offenders.
