Investment group could own Chiefs
Exeter Chiefs could be under new ownership soon after members and shareholders approved a proposed takeover by the investment group behind Premier League football club AFC Bournemouth.
The deal involves Black Knight Sports and Entertainment, part of the American investment company Cannae Holdings, which is currently carrying out checks on the club’s finances and operations before deciding whether to make a formal offer.
If the takeover is completed, the group would buy all shares in the Devon-based Premiership Rugby club.
A final decision is not expected before the end of May.
Black Knight already owns or has investments in several sports teams around the world, including French football club FC Lorient and New Zealand side Auckland FC.
Exeter Chiefs chairman and chief executive Tony Rowe stressed that the process is still at an early stage.
In a club statement Tony Rowe said: “This does not represent a firm offer. It is just a non-binding expression of interest at this stage but, hopefully, an offer will follow and we can begin negotiating the terms of the sale.
