Exeter University students banned from mixing

Contact outside household prohibited for fortnight

For the next two weeks, Exeter students have been told not to meet indoors with anyone outside their own household.

University students account for about half of confirmed coronavirus in Exeter. The students have only been back in the city for a couple of weeks, and in common with other parts of the country, mingling students has led to an increase in infections.

Jonathan Kirby from the Powderham Crescent Residents' Association says no one should be surprised.

The number of confirmed cases has jumped from 11 last week to 70 this. The city is now Devon's covid hotspot, ahead of Plymouth. The only district to see a decline in cases is Mid Devon.
