Exmouth flood defence scheme costs spiral

The Environment Agency says it's doing all it can to avoid Exmouth's flood defence scheme being delayed, but it all depends on funding.

The cost of the defences along the estuary, the Esplanade and the sea wall has risen from £4.3 million to more than £16 million, as more work is needed than originally thought.

The Environment Agency is asking the Government to make up the shortfall and is also exploring other sources including local councils and developers.
