Comment suggests that the condition's caused by eating sweets
An Exmouth mum whose young son has diabetes is criticising the producers of Eastenders over comments made during an episode last week.
Jo Sommers’ nine-year-old son developed Type 1 diabetes - in which the pancreas stops working - when he was five.
A character in the BBC-1 soap suggested that a birthday party wouldn’t be fun unless the children 'gave themselves diabetes' by eating cakes and sweets.
Mrs Sommers says lots of children with the disease feel they’re to blame when they hear such comments.
