An event to raise awareness of scams and con-artists is taking place in Exeter today. It's being hosted by Trading Standards and the Citizens' Advice Bureau.
Fraudsters are constantly devising new ways of getting people to part with their money.
Today's event aims to highlight some of the scams doing the rounds - which include offers of early access to pension funds, bogus online shopping sites, fake calls from banks, and the good old-fashioned doorstep caller.
The event also gives advice on what to do if you've fallen for a fraud. Victims are often too ashamed to talk about what's happened, but that means word about the scams don't get around and they go uninvestigated.
