Fire crews deal with two blazes in one night

They were called to Devonport and Winkleigh

Fire crews across Devon have had their work cut out overnight following two blazes in different parts of the county.

Two appliances from Greenbanl and Camels Head were sent to a two-storey terraced property in the Devonport area of Plymouth before two further appliances from Crownhill and Plymstock were requested.

Four breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera were used and paramedics also attended.

Two people managed to remove themselves from the property before the emergency services arrived - one female was treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

In Winkleigh, a fire crew from Chulmleigh was called to a property where a chimney fire had been reported.

Whilst the crew was travelling to the scene, another call was made to the fire service reporting that the fire had spread - a further two crews were sent from Hatherleigh and Okehampton.

The chimney fire involved a large open grease and the house was heavily smoke logged.

Both incidents are ongoing.
