The airline was taken over by a consortium in February

The managing director of Exeter Airport says he's 'very excited' about the rebranding of Exeter-based airline Flybe

It will be known as Virgin Connect from next year, and work's underway on changing the purple to red.

Flybe was taken over by a consortium called Connect Airways in February, helping to safeguard its future.

Exeter Airport Managing Director Matt Roach said: “I think it’s really exciting news to have a world-renowed brand centred around Exeter and the South West. It is fantastic news, not just for Exeter Airport, but the wider South West economy as well.”

Connect Airways CEO, Mark Anderson, said: “We are hugely excited by this milestone in our airline’s 40-year history. We will remain true to our heritage and reason for being, which is offering essential regional connectivity to local communities.

“At its heart, Virgin Connect will be passionately focused on becoming Europe's most loved and successful regional airline.  It will offer travel that is simple and convenient with the personal touch.”
