Funding boost for new city railway halt

A new railway halt in Exeter is to be partly funded by the Department of Transport.

They'll pay half the one-point-five million pound cost of the mini station at Newcourt, south of Digby and Sowton.. with the rest coming from contributions from developers.

It's one of two new stations planned for the city, to provide better public transport links to housing and employment areas - the other is in Marsh Barton.

The funding was announced by the Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, who was in Exeter to discuss another rail-related issue.... the need for better protection from flooding for the line at Cowley Bridge.

He was meeting representatives from Network Rail and First Great Western.
