The MP for East Devon is meeting DEFRA officials later today... to discuss the future of the colony of beavers living on the River Otter.
The Government department says they may be diseased... and should be tested, and then taken into captivity.
But local people, including the landowner, want them to stay once they've been checked for disease... and an online petition in support of that has more than eight thousand 600 signatures
