Exeter has been named among the worst hotspots for scams in England and Wales.
Citizens Advice analysed information from phone calls from victims of fraud and put Exeter among 10 cities where con-artists are cleaning up.
There were 61 scams reported locally between January and March this year with an average loss of nearly six thousand pounds.
The commonest scams in Exeter were phone calls falsely offering to clear viruses from computers and claims that people could subscribe to receive free trials of cosmetics.
