Historic graffiti found in Exeter Cathedral

Graffiti carved into stonework by a choirboy hundreds of years ago has been found in Exeter Cathedral.

The writing dates back to the 17th century - and has been revealed by the removal of the cathdral organ, which has been dismantled and sent for refurbishment.

The graffiti consists of the signature of a boy called Matthew Locke and the date, 1638.

And after carving his name in the organ loft, Locke went on to make his mark as a famous Baroque composer.
