Prison Officers and Police spent hours trying to get him down.
An inmate climbed on the roof of Exeter Prison last night and threw things over the wall and into the road.
Police were called to New North Road at 8.10pm last night (Monday 22nd October) by Prison staff to ensure the safety of the public. Highways also attended the scene and closed the road. It didn't reopen until 2.20am this morning - 6 hours after the incident first started.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed this morning the incident had been resolved.
A Prison Service spokesperson, said:
“Staff have successfully resolved an incident at height involving one prisoner at HMP Exeter.
“There was no disruption to the rest of the prison.”
