An investigation's begun into the tragic accident at Bradninch youth football club on Saturday - in which a 12 year old boy suffered fatal injuries.
Oliver Croker was watching the match between Bradninch and Bampton at Kensham Park, when a post holding sideline ropes became uprooted, and he was struck on the head.
He was flown to hospital in Bristol but died on Sunday night.
Mid Devon district council have confirmed that they're working with the police and the football club to investigate what happened.
In a statement their Public Health Manager Simon Newcombe expressed their deepest sympathies and condolences to Oliver's family and friends.. and said it may take some time to establish the causes of this tragic incident.
