Lay off the smoke bombs, please

Exeter City FC asks fans to behave

Exeter City went into a pre-friendly at Taunton on Friday night appealing for fans to leave their smoke bombs at home.

The fixture's been marred by trouble in the past two years; behaviour that both the club and supporters group Red Legion have condemned. The football authority's not impressed either, and fines could follow if behaviour isn't good this time round. Anyone taking smoke pellets or fireworks into the ground may subsequently have time to think about it: it can bring a three-month prison sentence.

Speaking about the friendly, City captain Jake Taylor said: “Our fans have been fantastic since I have been down here, but we obviously do not need the smoke bombs and stuff like that. We appreciate their support. Their signing and their chanting really helps us along so as long as they can continue doing things in the right way then we will try and do as much for them as possible.”

The match ended in a two-all draw. City head to Bristol Rovers on Saturday for the final game before the League Two season begins on 4 August.
