Local barbers to learn to spot the signs of depression

Local barbers are learning to lend a sympathetic ear to clients who may be suffering from depression and don't have anyone else to talk to.

A group called the Lions Barber Collective has been set up by Tom Chapman and he has arranged a training course at Exeter College next month for 12 barbers from across the UK.

His aim is for the training to eventually be part of all barbers' professional qualifications to help reduce the rate of suicide among men.

They will be trained to spot the signs of depression in their clients as they talk to them, and encourage them to open up about how they feel.
