VIDEO: Dartmoor's Fredo uses dating app
A sex-starved leopard that moved to Devon just before Christmas is to get a mate.
Fredo, who migrated to Dartmoor Zoo from Belgium in November is a critically endangered amur leopard. That means to gene pool of available females is a little on the thin side.
In fact, they're considered the rarest cats in the world. Numbers had dropped to between 20 and 30 in the wild, but are now getting back up to around a hundred with the help of zoos around the world. About 200 are in captivity.
When Fredo moved in, Dartmoor Zoo’s CEO Benjamin Mee said they'd try to find the lovesick beast a partner. He said: "With many challenges facing these wonderful animals such as poaching and habitat loss, we are honoured to play a part in the global conservation efforts to protect this species from extinction.”
Fredo went on zoo dating site Zims to find a suitable female, in the hope that eventually, little cub leopards will be introduced into the wild.
