Plans for a major shopping development on the outskirts of Exeter have been turned down by the government.
Exeter city council originally refused the application for a garden centre, shops, restaurants and leisure facilities for a site near Honiton Road in 2014. They said the so called Moor Exchange would amount to one tenth of the retail footprint of the city centre and they were worried about its effect on Exeter's shops.
Now the government has backed a planning Inspector's recommendation to reject the scheme.
Rachel Sutton, who's the city's lead councillor for development, is welcoming the decision. She says it's the right decision for Exeter and its thriving city centre.
