Man rescued from Exeter fire

Three fire crews were called to the Upton Pyne area

A man’s been rescued from a fire at a property in Exeter this afternoon.

Three fire crews were called to Upton Pyne in the city just before 2 o’clock where they helped free the person - who suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

Another person was also taken to hospital with injuries from the fire, while someone was also checked over at the scene.

Crews have now put out the blaze at the property, which caused significant fire and smoke damage.

In a statement, the service said: "The initial call stated that this was a fire involving a gas cylinder outside of the property, whilst en-route, Fire Control received a further call stating that the fire was involving the property, with 1 male still inside.

"On arrival, crews confirmed there was smoke issuing and rescued one male suffering from burns and smoke inhalation from the property.

"The property sustained 40% fire damage and 100% smoke damage.

"1 elderly male and 1 other person were conveyed to hospital by ambulance suffering with burns and smoke inhalation.  1 other person was also checked over on scene."
