Mother of Plymouth gunman among victims

Maxine Davison was killed by her son

Police name those killed

The mother of Plymouth killer Jake Davison was among his victims, police have announced,

Maxine Davison, also known as Maxine Chapman, aged 51, was among seven people shot by her son, of whom five died immediately. Two others are being treated at Derriford Hospital.

Further victims were Sophie Martyn, aged three, and her father Lee Martyn, aged 43.

Stephen Washington, aged 59, also died, as did 66-year-old Kate Shepherd who was injured at the scene and passed away later at Derriford.

The firearm believed to have been used during the incident was legally held by the offender. Local people described the killer as using a 'pump-action' shotgun, although this is not the term being used by police.

Mr Davison went on the rampage in the Keyham area of Plymouth just after 6 p.m. on Thursday. Within minutes, his victims were dead or injured.

YouTube has removed his video clips, in which he refers himself to the Terminator. He spoke of his difficulties in attracting a girlfriend or being able to lose weight.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are subject to a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct by Devon and Cornwall Police.

Four air ambulances were involved in helping at the scene. Chief constable Shaun Sawyer has praised the work of all the emergency services. He says his officers reached the incident within minutes of being alerted, and, as Mr Davison was dead by the time they arrived, police did not discharge their own firearms.

Mr Sawyer says he is proud of the work of his officers, but that any shortcomings will eventually be the matter for the coroner.

His staff continue to investigate 13 scenes within the cordon in Keyham which is expected to remain in place throughout much of the weekend.
