Nearly 20% of house purchases in Exeter incurs £7,500 stamp duty

The financial burden placed on homebuyers by stamp duty is being highlighted today by the Taxpayers Alliance as it campaigns for the Government to cut or abolish the punitive payments.

It's published figures showing how many transactions in each local authority area incur the higher rate of stamp duty - seven and a half thousand pounds for a property costing more than 250 thousand.

In Exeter it's nearly one in five, in mid-Devon 22 per cent and in east Devon, 34 per cent.
