New sports club formed following South West Youth Games

Five new Girls rugby clubs have started thanks to Saturday’s event in Dawlish.

Councillor Philip Bullivant, Teignbridge District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Recreation and Leisure, says that it shows how the councils are playing a vital role in delivering a vast amount of opportunities for children and young people to get into a new sport or physical activity.

He said: “The South West Rotary Youth Games is an extraordinary event, and acts as a catalyst for clubs, volunteers and the whole community to come together and give these young people an experience that they will never forget.

“We were thrilled to host it at Dawlish Leisure Centre and as a founding member of the Games have a long-held commitment to making sport accessible to all.”

Teignbridge won dance, mini tennis and softball cricket competitions, West Devon took the badminton, cyclocross, football – girls and gymnastics titles, Exeter triumphed in the ability sports event and also teamed up with North Devon to win the hockey – female event, East Devon won the hockey – male and Mid Devon won the triathlon – year 9 event and South Hams won the girls’s rugby
