An initiative in which GPs, police and community members join forces to help neighbours in need is taking off in several parts of Exeter and east Devon.
Neighbourhood HealthWatch was started by the NHS in 2011 and has become particularly successful in Newton St Cyres.
Police community support officers and local doctors work with charities and local residents to identify who needs help and how that support can be provided - which might involve doing DIY or errands, or just keeping a lonely person company.
