Liberal Democrats on Devon county council have called in the decision to close 20 residential care homes - announced yesterday.
It means the matter will be referred on to the People's Scrutiny Committee, for more detailed discussion and the hearing of evidence from staff and trade unions.
If the plans go ahead, more than 250 elderly residents will have to move from their care homes into private accommodation.
