Police investigating reports of a serious sexual assault in Barnstaple are appealing for a taxi driver to come forward as a witness.
It's believed the driver of a licenced Hackney Carriage taxi, who was working at around 2.15am on Friday 16 December, may have valuable information to the investigation.
A man, who was wearing a Santa hat, and a woman, used a taxi to travel from the area of the taxi rank in Boutport Street in Barnstaple between 2.15am and 2.30am.
Officers would like to hear from the driver, who they stress is being sought purely as a witness and isn't suspected of any offences, or anyone who thinks they know who he is.
A man in his 20s from the Barnstaple area was arrested on suspicion of rape and has been released on bail until Friday, 17 March.
Anyone with information which could help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact them by calling 101.
