A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his mother.

Callum Thomas, 32 and of no fixed abode, is accused of murdering Debra Thomas, 58, between 5 and 31 May 5.

Police found the body of Ms Thomas, also known as Debra Cantrell, at her home in Colwill Road, Plymouth.

They were called to the property in the early hours of 31 May.

On Monday, Mr Thomas appeared in front of Plymouth magistrates to face the charge, after an extended period of questioning by police. His lawyers said they would ask for bail on Tuesday at the Crown Court.

But at that hearing, bail was refused.

The court heard that Ms Thomas had been dead for some time, and had suffered a single stab wound to her chest.

Mr Thomas will next appear in court in July, with a trail due in November.
