Police take action against problem cyclists

Police officers and Community Support Officers in Exeter have taken action following complaints about cyclists using pavements and ignoring red lights.

On Friday, eight people were stopped within a four hour period in Sidwell Street, High Street and South Street.

Five fixed penalty notices of £30 were issued. Several other riders couldn't be followed because they were too far away from officers.

Police stressed that the majority of cyclists do observe the law, but the "inconsiderate minority" give a bad name to all riders.

They say they'll continue to work closely with Cycle Exeter and Devon County Council with a goal of improving cycle safety and security.
