Couple's collection stolen in distraction burglary
Commemorative coins, mainly involving the royal family, have been stolen from an elderly couple in North Devon in a distraction burglary.
Two conmen called at their Bideford home on Sunday afternoon saying they needed to check the water supply.
Whilst one talked to the occupants, the other searched a bedroom. It was later discovered that costume jewellery and the coin collection were missing.
The 50p, £5 and £20 coins depict occasions such as the Olympic Games, Her Majesty on horseback and her 90th birthday, Sir Winston Churchill and the birth of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The coin collection is said to be precious.
The main offender is white, aged 40 to 55, about 5'5" and of pale complexion. He was wearing a flat cap and blue raincoat, and spoke with an Irish accent.
