Residents Complain about Noise Levels at Exeter's Fanzone

Exeter residents took to social media at the weekend to complain about the high levels of noise from the rugby fanzone.

More than 3,000 people attended Northenhay Gardens on Friday night for the Opening Ceremony and England Game.

The celebrations culminated in a ticketed Basement Jaxx concert on Saturday night.

But some residents were unhappy at the noise levels, with many posting comments on facebook and twitter.

One person wanted assurances from Exeter City Council that the noise levels would be reduced for the remainder of fanzone events after excessive noise on Friday night, whilst another claimed it was "way too loud, way too late".

A statement from Exeter City Council said: "On Saturday night Northernhay Gardens was used for the Basement Jaxx event. This event was organised and promoted by a local events company and was not part of our Rugby World Cup 2015 programme.

"Concerts like this are rare in Exeter but we have received a number of complaints, which we take very seriously and will be reviewing to establish whether the organisers complied with noise and other conditions.

"As excitement grows around Rugby World Cup 2015, we will be ensuring that events in the Exeter Fanzone continue to match the success and atmosphere of the opening night."
