It will access new houses to towards North Devon Link Road

Road and infrastructure construction around new housing has been approved, which will allow development of more homes to be completed.

The first phase of the work off the North Devon Link Road, which consisted of westbound slip roads on the southern side of the A361, is already in place. Locally, it's known as the road to nowhere.

Phase two will see the construction of an overbridge and eastbound slip roads on the northern side, with the road linking this new junction to the existing Blundell’s Road will be constructed by the developer.

Dave Black, head of planning transportation and environment, in his report to Devon County Council's cabinet, said phase two: "will result in the development traffic travelling through Halberton to reach Tiverton Parkway train station and the M5 and using Blundell’s Road through the middle of the school when coming from the A361 west.

“Neither of these roads are appropriate for carrying large volumes of traffic and this option would also limit the amount of development that can come forward on the Tiverton EUE site.”

The cost of constructing the junction is estimated to be £10 million, funded by Mid Devon District Council that has obtained £8.2 million from Homes England’s Highways Infrastructure Fund, with the remaining funding coming from money Mid Devon receives from developers in return for permission to build.

Devon County Council's cabinet unanimously agreed to approve the scheme to proceed to tender award and construction, subject to a plan to overcome the issue of the construction of the link road.
