Row Sparked over Police Crime Commissioner Costs

Devon and Cornwall's Police and Crime Commissioner's office have hit back at today's report accusing them of costing the taxpayer too much money.

Chief executive Andrew White says the figures produced by the Taxpayers' Alliance relate to 2013 to 14 and are out of date.

He also says the claim that his office employs seven PR staff is inaccurate - as four of them are community engagement workers contracted for just 60 hours a year.

Mr White says in reality the running costs have been continually coming down.

The report, produced by the Tax Payers' Alliance, claims that our Office for Police and Crime Commissioner is costing the tax payer more than the previous system.

Police and Crime Commissioners replaced the old Police Authority in 2012 and the report sets out the rising costs in Devon and Cornwall.

They claim that part of the huge running costs include the seven staff involved in public relations at the westcountry office.
