Rural crime and farm thefts on the decrease

Thefts from farms and other rural properties are on the decline in Devon, according to the latest figures from insurers NFU Mutual.

Last year the total cost of rural crime across the south west was 5.6 million pounds, compared to 7.6 million the year before.

The company says that trend seems to be continuing this year, and believes that closer work between police and rural communities is helping to make farmers more security conscious and police better at detecting suspicious activity.
