The venue in Exeter will cost £25 million
Outline consent for the new four-star hotel has already been granted.
The building will include a unique rooftop glazed restaurant, and access to the hotel be via a purpose built footbridge from the existing stadium complex, and will be built on the site of a bungalow, owned by the club, next to the stadium.
The basement level of the hotel would have a sauna/steam room/Jacuzzi, a gym/fitness centre, changing rooms, as well as back office functions such as staff areas and housekeeping.
There will also be a rooftop glazed restaurant for 172 covers on the ninth floor. The application describes it as ‘one of its kind in this area and will provide unique dining experience for guests and visitors’.
Exeter City Council planners are recommended to approve the plans, with the planning officer’s conclusion saying: “The proposal is consistent with the parameters established through the outline planning consent, both in terms of the consented number of bedrooms and the access arrangements to serve the hotel. While it is inevitably a large building, and one that will become a prominent new feature in the locality visible from distant vantage-points, the proposal is considered acceptable in terms of its scale, layout, appearance and landscaping."
