Somerset firm adds Paignton to its portfolio
A large derelict garage in Paignton could become a new outlet for nationwide hardware store Screwfix.
The Somerset-based company has more than 900 outlets around the UK, Ireland and France, and now the former Speedwell Kia site off Totnes Road could become the next.
Torbay Council has given the company permission to convert the now-empty ‘tired and dated’ garage and showroom building into an outlet for storage and distribution, mainly to the local building trade.
Some local residents had raised concerns over the effect of cars using the site, with headlights shining into their homes.
Screwfix began as the Woodscrew Supply Company in Yeovil in 1979.
