It's rescued by lifeboat

Reports of a body at a beach near Sidmouth have turned out to be a bit overstated. It's turned out to be a piece of driftwood.

The mistaken corpse was seen on Sunday, prompting Sidmouth's Independent Lifeboat to launch a rescue mission in the water off Clifton Beach. To avoid future misunderstandings, they removed the driftwood.

Always better safe than sorry, so no one is questioning the need to call the coastguard about any concerns in the water.

Then on Monday a small yacht that had run aground near Rock Islands at Sidmouth beach after already been helped twice on its journey according to the coastguard was also assisted by Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat.

The team decided it was best protected 12 miles away at Exmouth Marina and was taken there after being handed over from the Sidmouth Lifeboat to the crew of Exmouth's RNLI all-weather lifeboat.

The people behind the self-funded Sidmouth Independent life say they're getting busier because of the warm weather. Last week they attended a casualty on Salcombe beach who had a suspected broken leg. The crew gave first aid, before taking them onto the lifeboat on a stretcher and back to Sidmouth for transfer to A&E.
