Sidmouth traffic plan for Red Arrows

Let's draw something rude

Extra car parking and bus services will be in place

The popular red jets will fly over Sidmouth seafront on Friday, August 24. Last year saw more than 35,000 people flock to the town to watch the daring acrobatics over the English Channel.

But the influx of visitors has in previous years seen gridlock in the town as scores of drivers try and leave Sidmouth. As a result, Sidmouth town council, working alongside Devon County Council, will be implemented a traffic management plan to ease the normal delays when leaving the town following the conclusion of the display.

As a result, Sidmouth town council, working alongside Devon County Council, will be implemented a traffic management plan to ease the normal delays when leaving the town following the conclusion of the display.

The plan includes:

  • The four-way traffic lights at Sidford Cross in Sidford will be turned off for a limited period between 6.30pm and 8pm. Instead there will be a Manned Traffic Management system in place instead, prioritising traffic exiting the town.
  • Extra car parking will be provided at the rugby club, the cricket club and the National Trust field at the junction of Cotmaton Road and Glen Road from 4pm to 9pm, costing £5.
  • A park-and-stride car park at Sidmouth College will also be available from 12pm to 9pm, again costing £5.
  • Stagecoach has said it will provide ‘additional capacity on the regular scheduled bus services’.
  • The seafront, for its entire length from the Port Royal to the junction with Manor Road, will be closed from 3pm to 8pm, for all traffic
  • Parking will be banned from Exeter Cross down Temple Street, the Radway, along the length of All Saints and then along Station Road until the Bowd, from 3pm to 8pm. Cars will be removed if found contravening the restrictions.
