St Thomas roadworks: what is going on?

New bus shelters, resurfacing of roads and next pavements.

It's easy to get confused with what is going on in St Thomas, Exeter at the moment.

Last week Buddle Lane was closed overnight for resurfacing work, with many residents complaining of noise.

Devon County Council is now replacing the bus shelter outside Brick n' Mix so the top of Cowick Street closed at 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 20th August) and won't reopen until 3.30pm tomorrow (Thursday 22nd August).

To confuse matters further, more signs have appeared along Buddle Lane this week saying parking will be suspended to allow for "footway maintenance" from Tuesday 27th August - Friday 4th October.

Devon County Council has confirmed the road WON'T be closed, but parking will be suspended for 5 - 6 weeks, 24 hours a day. They say this is because it’s very difficult to repair footways when cars are parked on the road up to and onto the kerb.

A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately there is always some disruption when we make repairs but what we try to do is keep that to a minimum, for example where possible keeping roads open under traffic control instead of closing them and where the road needs to be closed because of safety reasons carrying out that work off peak."
