Buses replacing some trains from Exeter
The RMT unions says its members are "rock solid" in their strike action today affecting South Western Railway -which includes trains on the Exeter to London Waterloo line.
They walked out at midnight - in the first of eight days of protests over the use of guards. Strikes will affect every Saturday between now and September, except the one over the August bank holiday weekend.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash says they're "angry and frustrated" that South Western Railway's management won't "address the fundamental issues" and that they've "sabotaged" previous proposals. They claim to be putting public safety above private profit.
South Western Railway plans to deliver two thirds of its normal capacity on Thursday by using other employees as guards, adding carriages and replacing some services with buses.
