Teenagers transform prison's play area

Children of visitors to Exeter Prison now have a new play area. It's thanks to a group of 15 to 17 year olds on a National Citizenship scheme - a summer holiday programme to help school leavers improve life skills.

They have to plan and carry out a community project - and they chose to cut down overgrown trees and refurbish the jail's family space, which is one of the first things visitors see when they arrive.

The group transformed the play area in just four days and have now been invited to improve other visiting areas of the prison.
