Teignbridge benefit from £8 million funding boost

People living in Teignbridge and the wider Exeter area are set to benefit from a £7.9M funding boost that will unlock key infrastructure projects including new countryside parks and a road, all essential ahead of building new homes.

Two projects in Teignbridge have today been given millions of pounds in government funding to support local work that will accelerate infrastructure projects

Teignbridge has secured £4.2M to kick-start early delivery of a tree-lined link road in Dawlish along with a new bridge and high quality pedestrian and cycleway. This critical strategic road project will help unlock delivery of 350 new homes and accelerate more than 500.

An Exeter City Council-led bid on behalf of the three councils secured £3.7M to establish and manage a new 38 hectare countryside park in Exminster, something which mitigates against the recreational impacts of increased population on internationally important wildlife sites.

Exeter City Council’s Cllr Daniel Gottschalk, who is Chair of the South East Devon Habitat Regulations Executive Committee, said:

“This is brilliant news for the area and everyone living near the Exe Estuary. I’d like to thank everyone involved in putting together this successful bid and celebrate the resulting funding that will be able to deliver effective protection to our wildlife habitats.”
