Torbay Council explains why website went down
Residents in Torbay were left unable to use the council’s website over the weekend because of tech problems.
The website was down from Friday, 21 January until 9.30 a.m. on the following Monday [January 24].
Residents need the website for a wide range of services, from viewing planning applications to paying council tax.
Torbay Council said the issue arose after a regular server update ran into problems.
A spokesperson for Torbay Council said: “We update our server estate regularly as required by Microsoft – sometimes the updates have issues themselves, which is what happened on this instance and it was a particularly bad one.
“The IT team have worked hard over the weekend to get our website back up and running.”
In a tweet, the council apologiesed for the inconviencie the problems may have caused.
