The final plans will be published next year

The government has given its backing for two housing developments in Devon.

A taskforce has recommended 12 sites across England, with Marlcome - a new town near Exeter Airport - and more densified development in Plymouth among them.

8-thousand homes are expected to be built in the East Devon development, rising eventually to 10-thousand.

It will also come with green spaces, with links sto nearby Clyst Valley Regional Park, walkable neigbourhoods and cycle routes as well as schools, shops and health facilities.

The plans haven't gone without controversy, highlighting issues with infrastructure and missed deadlines with development at nearby Cranbrook.

In Plymouth, the city centre could see at least 10-thousand new homes built.

The city council says demand on homes is souring, with billions of pounds of investment recently announced for the Devonport Naval Base, creasing thousands of new jobs.

The government will publish the draft proposals for consulation in the Spring.
