The university's Medical School has been given more than half a million pounds.
It's been awarded by the Alzheimers Society with the aim of making advances towards finding a cure for the condition, and improving care for sufferers.
The research will look at the mechanisms of electrical signalling in the brain which are disrupted by dementia, and the role played by genetics.
