Major fire at village car breakers: 10 fire crews attend
The road between Exmouth and Woodbury has been closed this afternoon, Sunday, after a major incident at a Woodbury car breakers.
Ten fire crews were called to Gilbrook Road, Woodbury at about 1430 on Sunday. Plumes of smoke could been seen for some miles.
About 30 residences were evacuated to the village hall. Other residents were advised to shut doors and windows to keep out the smoke.
Fire appliances from Exmouth, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton Crediton and Exetre attended. Environment Agency staff from Newton Abbot were also called. A large gas cylinder was said to be involved in the fire, which embraced the whole of the breakers yard.
